This is going to be an incredibly short newsletter post because I have forty five minutes before my next class, and I still have to finish the reading.
Book News
My next release is out OCTOBER 24 under a pseudonym, Nina Saxena. TO PLUNDER A PIRATE QUEEN is a very short sci-fi fantasy dark romance that was a part of the Bonkers Romance Pirate Kickstarter and you’ll have access to it on Kindle Unlimited! Paperback copies of the book will be available APRIL 24 with extended chapters.
After that, you’ll get MY SO-CALLED BOLLYWOOD LIFE, a re-issue of my first YA ever, out in February! I had the cover re-done by the incredible Casey Moses who is my biggest fan fav.
In May 2024, you’ll get my first new adult romance, THE LETTERS WE KEEP which is a sexy campus story about two students who meet at a South Asian mixer, fight over a study room, and get stuck in a haunted tower where they find a stack of letters from someone who disappeared back in the seventies. I hope you enjoy it!
In August 2024, and this is the big one, you’ll finally get THE RIVAL PARTNERSHIP, which is book 3 of The Singh Family Trilogy. I don’t have much on this yet because frankly, I haven’t started writing it, but I’m excited to get back into the Singh Universe!
In October 2024, you’ll get the second NINA SAXENA installation in the Shukra Duology. Also haven’t started this one yet, but it’s going to be much darker than the first one with lots of triggers, so heads up, this may not be for every reader.
I know the third book in the Shakespeare series isn’t here along with my YA paranormal Buffy inspired romance, and that’s because I’m still working on developmental edits for both of those books. Once I hand them in, then I’ll have release dates and I’ll be able to share the news on when they come out.
PhD Updates
I started teaching and taking classes, and I feel more motivated than I have in a long time, but it’s only week 4 and I am trying to be mindful of my time so that I don’t burn out.
BUT IT’S SO HARD NOT TO GET EXCITED OVER EVERYTHING!
Like, I learned about Monster Theory last week and I feel like my brain has been on fire since I read it. Monster romance readers, this is for you. Check it out, here.
I also started to deep dive into Literary Realism which is about representation of the mundane, of reality and of the common person’s existence. This movement was very popular in the US in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. AND GUESS WHAT. Guess. No, wait, I’ll tell you. It’s freaking coming back and it’s coming for romance! More thoughts on this after I’ve written my paper, though.
Lastly, I learned about how inaccessible college campuses can be. If a building has been historically preserved, it can actually circumvent federal requirements for ADA compliance. My office is currently on the third floor of a building that doesn’t have any ramps, elevators or handicap bathrooms. I have written to the administration about this, but sadly, since the building was built prior to 1900, the school doesn’t have to make any modifications for accessibility.
23 for 23
It’s such a joy seeing 23 for 23 take off and so many people working hard on reading more books by marginalized authors. Don’t forget to check the website for resources!
And that is my very quick, drive-by newsletter for the week! Let me know if you want to know more about what I’m studying, what I’m teaching, etc. And hopefully, I’ll have more bookish news soon!
Hugs,
Nisha
